THE GREATEST baseball player in Washington State Cougars history, John Olerud, always spoke with great reverence about Bobo Brayton, the greatest baseball coach in Washington State Cougars history. “Bobo, he was larger than life,” Olerud said a few years back. “Just a legend.” Even legends can’t go on forever.

WSU and NFL star LaVern Torgeson dies

WASHINGTON STATE Hall of Famer LaVern "Torgy" Torgeson, a long-time NFL star with Detroit and Washington and then an assistant coach in the NFL for 35 years, passed away March 23 in Huntington Beach, Calif., his residence for the past 20 years. The news was relayed by his wife Nola (Carmichael) Torgeson, a 1955 graduate of WSU from Wenatchee.
